Do I hear Booker?

Do I hear Booker?

From Rick Riordan to Hulk Hogan, today’s news has something to keep kids, wrestling fans, and “weirdo literary types” happy. Enjoy!

  • It’s official! Rick Riordan has announced “The Kane Chronicles,” his next series that launches with The Red Pyramid in May 2010. This time, the gods are Egyptian, and Riordan explains, “The series follows brother and sister Carter and Sadie Kane, who accidentally help unleash the Egyptian gods into the modern world.” Only they can undo the problem they’ve created, which means multiple books of exciting damage control will ensue. You can read more about the series on Rick Riordan’s blog.
  • The Omnivoracious Best Books of 2009 countdown we announced last week is now complete, with the final 10 posted Monday. Their number one slot went to Colum McCann’s Let the Great World Spin, which is also a National Book Award finalist. According to the blog, the selection was nearly unanimous: “Weirdo literary types, pop culture junkies, you name it–everybody found something to love in McCann’s lyrical story of ten intricately connected lives in 1970s New York.”
  • Who says lit blogs and professional wrestling don’t mix?  Earlier this week, New York Times reporter and blogger Dave Itzkoff interviewed Hulk Hogan about his upcoming memoir My Life Outside the Ring. In the book, Hogan shifts the focus from headlocks and spandex to the personal problems he’s faced throughout his career. Itzkoff’s blog posting, “A Nice Polite Chat With Hulk Hogan,” includes a video of the interview, complete with wrestling clips and Hogan in his red bandana.
