Reluctant readers are no match for Daniel X
Free content is the name of the game today, with a 26-minute reading from J.M. Coetzee and the first half of James Patterson’s Daniel X available online. You can also find out which authors are on Twitter and follow them ASAP, kind of like literary paparazzi. Enjoy!
- Have you tweeted with your favorite author lately? The question’s not as weird as it sounds – more and more authors are opening Twitter accounts as a way to promote new books and connect with fans. Some post in the voice of their main characters, while others simply socialize with their readers. USA Today discusses the trend and gives examples of the authors (and characters) that are posting tweets.
- Thanks, Elegant Variation, for tipping us off to this 26-minute reading of Summertime by author J.M. Coetzee. Nominated for a Booker, Summertime is the third fictionalized memoir in Coetzee’s “Scenes from a Provincial Life” series, which began with Boyhood and Youth. Given the rarity of Coetzee’s public appearances, a reading of this length is definitely something to check out.
- Daniel X: Watch the Skies, the second book in James Patterson’s “Daniel X” series, debuted this week at #1 on the NY Times bestseller list for children’s chapter books. The first Daniel X book was named a “Best Book for Boys” by Good Morning America, and the series is ideal for reluctant readers. Readers interested in the series can get a taste with a free audio download from book one, available on Hachette‘s site.
