It’s Friday – Let’s Watch a Movie!

by BNA_Daily on June 12, 2009

Books are no longer just words on a page as authors and publishers turn to video interviews and book trailers for promotion.  We’ve scoured the internet for interesting videos related to some of the books currently topping the New York Times bestseller lists.  From Mark Levin to Sarah Dessen, there’s something for everyone.

THE SCARECROW by Michael Connelly (#1 Hardcover Fiction)

In this combination trailer and author video, Michael Connelly introduces us to his latest novel, in which newspaper reporter Jack McEvoy is back to track a murderer.  But as he finds himself cut off from civilization in the vast Las Vegas desert, McEvoy “begins to wonder whether he’s chasing the killer, or the killer’s chasing him.”

LIBERTY AND TYRANNY: A Conservative Manifesto by Mark R. Levin (#1 Hardcover Nonfiction)

As you might guess from the title, this is not a pro-Obama book, so who better than Rush Limbaugh to discuss it with author Mark Levin?  In this interview, Levin and Limbaugh talk about the “stateists” (Levin refuses to call them “liberals”) who they believe might destroy everything the United States stands for.  Those who agree with them will be interested to learn more about the beliefs that inspired Levin to write the book, and those that don’t can get a sense of what the book is about without devoting hours to reading it.

THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrow (#1 Paperback Fiction)

With soothing background music and video splicing, Annie Barrows introduces us to Guernsey (an island in the English channel) during World War II.  This is the setting for the book, in which island residents of various backgrounds turn to reading as the only safe escape from Nazi occupation.  Barrows also discusses the epistolary form of the novel and where the “potato peel pie” part of the title comes from.

LOCK AND KEY by Sarah Dessen (#1 Paperback, Children’s)

Fans of Sarah Dessen will love this video of Dessen playing tour guide in Chapel Hill, her hometown and inspiration for Lake View, the fictional setting for many of her novels.  With her charming, barely-there Southern drawl, Dessen points out landmarks that appear in her books and introduces fans to the plot of Lock and Key.
