Beach reading: A dangerous activity for vampire lovers

Beach reading: A dangerous activity for vampire lovers

As the weather heats up and American flags are hung for Memorial Day, we can’t help thinking about this summer’s beach reads.  Romance is the classic “guilty pleasure” beach pick, but now there’s a sub-genre that’s growing faster than the rest – paranormal romance.  Paranormal romance combines science fiction, horror, and romance to create love affairs that transcend natural laws and occasionally species.  The Twilight series is probably the best known example, though serious paranormal romance fans might consider it a tamed-down, teen version of the real thing.  See below for reviews of the latest books in the most popular series, and remember, there’s a good chance a vampire will be doing the bodice ripping this summer.

Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris (Southern Vampire Mysteries) – available now

  • “Even though I found it a bit darker than previous Sookie books, I have no doubt that longtime fans of the series will devour this book in no time at all.” – ParanormalRomance.org review

Lover Avenged by J. R. Ward (Black Dagger Brotherhood) – available now

Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole (The Immortals After Dark) – available now

  • “Perennial favorite Cole continues to round out her Immortals After Dark world with kick-butt action and scorching passion!” – Romantic Times review

Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian (Midnight Breed) – out May 26th
