Craig Arnold

The poetry world is mourning the loss of Craig Arnold, the award-winning poet who was proclaimed dead May 8th after disappearing in Japan in late April.  Arnold went missing while exploring a volcano on the Japanese island Kuchinoerabu-jima, and a team of American trackers eventually followed his trail to a cliff.  Arnold was in Japan on a creative exchange fellowship, and he kept a blog to document his journey.  If you haven’t read Craig Arnold’s work, we recommend the following poems that are available on the Poetry Foundation’s website:

“Bird-Understander”

“Incubus”

“The Invisible Birds of Central America”

“Uncouplings”

For more information on his tragic death, see the Los Angeles Times book blog.

Or, if you’re more interested in remembering the poet’s life, you can check out this video of Craig reading his poem “Incubus” at the annual Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) conference in Chicago earlier this year. He will be missed.
