- The Colts might have lost the Super Bowl, but Indiana could still prove victorious in Omnivoracious‘ Indiana vs. Louisiana author showdown. The blog pits big-time authors from both states against each other, ultimately letting you decide which is the literary victor. Unfortunately we can’t watch Kate Chopin and Robert Penn Warren (Louisiana) physically battle it out with Kurt Vonnegut and Ernie Pyle (Indiana), but you get the idea.

Like anything, novel writing takes practice, and The Elegant Variation‘s Mark Vargas (a judge for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize) highlights some common mistakes he’s noticed in fiction debuts. - Neil Gaiman delighted fans over the weekend by announcing his plan to write an episode of Doctor Who, the long-running British TV show. Gaiman is a fan of the series, and his episode is scheduled to air in early 2011. Though Gaiman’s announcement on Saturday was vague–”It’s quite possible that I might have written an episode”–the Guardian and JacketCopy confirm the plan and give some more details.
